I still hold that the big reason, or at least one of the reasons, people in my generation are left of center, is because there hasn't been a real liberal government (other then '92-'94) in this country since Jimmy Carter and the Democrats controlled everything in the late 70s. So, we don't know any better, especially given most of us don't know any history.
