What drives freedom?

Does personal freedom/civil rights drive economic freedom, or is the other way around? Probably a little of both. If you don't have any free time/freedom, you probably don't have the ability to innovate economically. But, at least according to the above linked post, it's mostly economic freedom driving personal freedom.

I admit, the reason I vote Republican over Democrat is because of my belief that economic freedom leads to personal freedom more then the other way around. Interestingly, the attached link is to a blogger who is a self described Liberal-tarian or Rawlsekian (Rawls/Hayek). Perhaps, his point is that we've mostly got economic freedom and a certain level of economic freedom that means we can now work on/expand the personal/civil rights.
