Boy/Girl Graduation Gap

It's great to be a boy on college campuses nowadays. Mind you, some of this is explained by the jobs that, at least historically, have been male dominated that pay well (e.g. electrician, plumber, until recently construction, etc.). Also, it seems that the male/female gap is at least partly driven by the increase in minorities in the country. Specifically, there doesn't seem to be much of a gap between white suburban kids, but there are large gaps between men and women for blacks and, I assume, hispanics in inner cities.

A couple of thoughts. Doesn't this just say that all the cultural changes that have happened, disproportionately affect minorities (e.g. AFDC changes part of the Great Society, the Pill, the drug war) are also causing this problem? And it is a problem. Doesn't this just "push the problem" down? So, ok with all the cultural/economic advantages white suburban kids have, boys go on to university. But, inner city boys don't. So, can we say the education system is failing boys in the inner cities? Maybe we should revise that system? Besides, if the opposite was happening (inner city women not going on to university as much as the boys), wouldn't we be hearing A LOT MORE then we are now?
