Societal Changes

One of them is the Marriage gap, between the "rich" and the "poor". Admittedly, this is actually about the wage gap between married men/married women/unmarried women & unmarried men. The unmarried men got "screwed" over the last 40 years. Educated people get married more, and maybe that's one of the reasons the gap between rich and poor is rising. Maybe, two people meeting in college or grad school and getting and staying married (I've read in more then one place that people who have college degrees' divorce rates have dropped precipitously, while the less educated divorce rates have been pretty level) leads to social/genetic advantages that help both for them and their children.

But, most people that really worry about the "gap" between the rich and the poor are doctors, lawyers, tenured professors, journalists, etc. who make six figures, but aren't making as much as money as people who go on to be CEOs, investment bankers, etc. So, it's more of a "I'm smarter then the person making millions, and yet I'm only making six figures" complaint. As soon as parents who went to Harvard tell their kids they can't go anywhere besides state schools and community colleges, they're not taking the problem seriously, in my opinion.
